Goodbye old friends...

Lovely little things, aren't they?  When I was a little girl I loved when my Mom would surprise us with mini powdered Hostess donettes.  There was something special about them. The powdered sugar was different than any other brand...can't explain how, but it was different.  And better.  Way better.

This morning I was at Target and there were 2 bags left on the shelf.  I did't take both bags...I thought about it...but no need to be greedy (someone else might have fond memories of these sweet little things). So, that's it. No more. Ever.  It's like an end of an era...I thought Hostess products would last forever! Weird that Wonder bread will be gone too (not that I bought it...).  And no more deep fried twinkies at the county fair!  Oh the horror...

Or maybe it is really the beginning of the end...

So long old friends...

Hope you all had a ho ho or twinkie this weekend!

But now you've immortalized them, they look dreamy here. I forgot about the impact that the loss of twinkies will have on fairs. It's sad about all those jobs lost, though :(

Those wee donuts were a guilty pleasure when I was in university. Haven't had any for years now. They certainly did have a distinctive taste and texture.

Not one ho ho or twinkie,
but did have a powdered donut hole similar to these donuts. Sad to see this icon go, but have a feeling something will come bouncing back somewhere/sometime.

I didn't know that Hostess was closing its doors. I'm not sure I ever really patronized them, so I guess I could be partially responsible for their demise. Sorry.

OK, true confession, I've never eaten a Twinkie in my life. BUT those donettes...those I could eat non-stop. I haven't had those in ages and now that you've reminded me that Hostess created them, I am crushed. It's a very sad day :(

I don't know if I ever had one of those donuts. I actually prefer something like a Little Debbie swiss cake roll...perhaps I shouldn't say that though.

Beautiful photo! They look so delectable. I'm not much for packaged sweets, but in high school, I'd like the occasional Hostess chocolate pudding or lemon pie with those thick dense crusts. The delight was in getting the bit of filling our of the end corners.

Hopefully someone will buy the company or recipe and we'll continue to enjoy them.
