No Touch Monkey! Choosing a book, whir and bon voyage...

Oh goodie goodie goodie (rubbing hands in excitement).  I got a couple of new books (you know, I really am easy to please!)  Gosh, I have not read a book in sooooo long.  But now I have some time to do this *big smile*.

Anyway, how do you choose a book?  I think we all have a certain way to do this...almost like choosing a bottle of red wine.  Is it the cover? The review? The description on the back?  The way it feels in your hand?  For me I have to read the first page.  If I am not engrossed within that first page...back on the shelf it goes.  I know, that might sound weird, like I don't give the book a chance.  But it really works for me.  There have been a few books that friends said..."you have to read this...you have to!".  And if I can't get through that first page...I rarely finish the book.

So I picked up No Touch Monkey!  Come on, the title itself is hilarious and I LOVE the cover.  Oh I can't wait to dive into this...I actually loved the very first sentence!. Yep, that's even better...a winner for sure!  The other book I bought is, The school of essential ingredients.  It's about a group of people that meet once a month in a cooking class...again, good first page. I think it's gonna be a winner too.  Yippee!

And so I am going away for a bit...a little trip south to Alabama, Florida and New Orleans.  Gonna see my Dad (it's been 8 years! Eeeek!).  My youngest has never met her Grandfather...so I think it's time.  And I think it's time to put the past behind us and move forward. Deep breaths...but it will be good...I know this.

Seems that summer is off to a good start so far.  Even got a pedicure today ;)

I will try to pop in and say hi...but it may be hard.  So if you don't hear from me, not to worry, I didn't go and start up a new flickr account..;)~

Here's my all time favorite Smashing Pumpkins song (I was not a die hard fan, but I liked them...but this song...ahhhhh...just makes you want to chill out).

xoxo will miss you guys!

With a couple of new books and a fresh pedicure, the world is your oyster! Enjoy your holiday!

where in Alabama? :) have a great trip. putting the past away is usually a good thing.

I'm a cover girl on books - then the back blurb...then I'll give it a try. Of course there have been several that the concept was good but they crashed.

I read the flap or the back blurb and decide. I like your idea a lot, too. Good SP song. Liked them.

Bon voyage. Hope it's wonderful for everyone.

Caroline,
May this journey be one that is filled with much meaning for you...

Have a wonderful time away.

Have a wonderful time Caroline, I hope you have a good visit with your Dad and are able to have a fresh start. enjoy your books, take lots of photos. have fun. will miss you.

hope you have a great trip!!!!!

well that book looks hilarious!

i usually get books based on recommendations. my favorite is when my sister passes one on to me that she loved. that is easy, and usually a guaranteed good read! also, if the ny times book review gives it a good review, i usually give it a whirl. or if a book looks interesting and entertainment weekly gives it an "A."

When you get to New Orleans I hope you get a chance to try Cafe Du Monde!

Tabitha - Have been there before...and can't wait to go again!! I love New Orleans and esp. Cafe Du Monde!!

Time off seems to be the theme of the blogs I'm following. 'tis the season. So glad to see that so many people are taking time to slow down and relax - so important to happiness.

Can't wait to hear what you thought of the book. Have a wonderful time!

Yeah, I'd buy that book for it's title alone! I'll miss you but hope you have a fabulous holiday - can't wait to see your pictures! xoxo

happy and safe travels....do you have a pocket fan to take with you ? LOL !.....i hear it's just blistering hot down there !

any chance you'll be by char ?

and i'm savoring a book right now that i am loving....i don't want it to end....i want the main character in it to my new best friend.....

am i the only one that happens to ?

I had fun in N.O but it smelled kind of funky. The locals said it was a cobination of swamp and puke.
No touch monkey is good advice. Steve touched one in Mexico and it peed on him

Oh I wish I was going to those places too....I have never been to the US... but some day I will!!!!

Have a great summer and enjoy your books :-)

I choose by books by their cover. *grin* Then, I read the description and then, I usually read part of the first page. It's got to grab me too. If I take it home and it doesn't hold my attention,...NEXT.

Oh, sounds like a fabulous trip. Take lots of deep breaths with your Dad, several walks around the property alone, and remember that you've long ago risen above whatever may have happened in the past.

xoxo
