Lemons, blueberries and green stuff...oh my!

I believe that we are all like 3 legged stools.  Each leg representing: mind, body & spirit.  And when we become unbalanced in one of those areas, the stool begins to wobble. I do a good job at keeping my spiritual self healthy...but my mind (especially my ego) can get the best of me.  I eat pretty good...but can do much better.  Last month I began to watch what I ate.  Really trying to eat less processed foods.  No...not dieting...just making better choices.  I started drinking this green detox "stuff" with my meals...and I can't tell you how much better I began to feel (and it tastes pretty good too).

I think that when you fill your body with junk...your mind and spirit begins to feel "junky" too.  Don't you agree?

So on New Year's Eve (for the first time in over 20 years) I did not drink.  I woke up feeling wonderful.  Today I drank lemon water, ate fresh blueberries and drank my green "stuff."  Oh yeah...I had some gummy bears too...lol (I can't be totally perfect!). And I can't promise that I won't eat crap...because I will (but not as much).

So to really "bloom" this year I will (try):
  • make good food choices
  • laugh more
  • meditate
  • make more time to create & play
  • have more quiet time
  • explore
  • pray
  • be more calm
  • be kind to myself
  • make peace with my body
Will this be easy...no.  And I don't expect it to be either.

But I really want to keep my stool from toppling over.

The photos are perfect. I love your list! I rarely drink alcohol, but recently I had been having some Bailey's in evening coffee, or a glass of wine from a bottle left from Christmas Eve. All is gone now, and I will not be replacing! It is funny how when I eat (drink) wrong the day before, I wake up feeling "off". My first step to simplifying my eating habits is getting back to drinking more water.

(I went to bed too early last night and now am wide awake at 4:30am - I'm embracing it as more alone time!)

Great shots Caroline. And even better goodies. Give me the recepy of that green stufffff ggggrrr looks gross but if it's good for you...well I'll go for it then.

Have a wonderful happy and adventures New Year.

Great photos and great goals. I don't think you will be toppling over soon!

Love these images! Have you read In Defense of Food by Michael Pollan? It's the perfect inspiration for your food goals.

Oh, and what's in the green stuff???

what a great start to the new year. lovely images.

Balance. That's what it's all about and you're right -- once out of balance it's easy to stumble or fall.

I really like your analogy of mind/body/spirit being a 3 legged stool. I'm 100% about the m/b/s and this is a perfect way to describe it!!

Here's to being mindful of what we eat, how we think and what we do!

I'm curious, too, about the green stuff. I've been wanting to at least drink gree tea during the day... but haven't... yet.

Lovely shots.... the green stuff even looks a little frothy.

all the best wishes for your choices Caroline

happy new year :)

Hi Caroline! Another curious soul about what "tea" the green stuff is? I, myself, have an Açaí berry, banana, soy protein, falx seed, Silk soy milk ( or cocnut milk) smoothie a few times a week and my biggest thing is Kombacha! love the stuff especailly the Super Fruit version. Nice reminder of what is important in the New Year! Great images as always!

That mysterous green stuff is called Green Envy...I buy it at costco. Here is the link for more information:

Cut and paste the link below

Could this green stuff be the same thing Renee Russo was drinking for breakfast every morning in The Thomas Crown Affair?

Gorgeous photography. Always such a pleasure to see.

great resolutions. I like most of them, except for the green stuff. I might draw the line personally there.

:) go Woman go!

I too love your analogy. Thanks for sharing this useful information. I think we all could use a clean slate so to speak!

Great list... oh but that coffee (lol)
Hope you get it all! Good Luck my friend;)

what stunning beginnings!

great start...but you didn't reveal the source of the green detox!

I too want a balanced stool. Some days all three legs are chopped short at once. If I can just keep my own promises to myself to work on all three, I'll do well. I find my commitments to others get priority over those to myself and that makes my stool wobbly. I love that you give yourself permission not to "follow rules"...I can learn from you! Happy New Year! I'll be emailing you. I want to get a new header design from you!

I adore what you did with the photos! What's the "green stuff"??

What a wonderful list of New Year's aspirations. And you've even managed to make the green detox 'stuff' look good!!!
Best wishes to you and yours..

do you promise the green stuff tastes good ?
really promise ?

I don't do enough health wise, with food, to make me feel better, but I'm always willing to try....

I like my cookies and m & m's ......but will add the good stuff as long as the bad stuff doesn't have to leave permanently....

and yesterday, I started to exercise again....just a zumba class, but wow, did I get my grove on and feel great !

here's to keeping our stools from falling over....

ah, such a lovely and inspiring year. Sounds as though you are off to a wonderful beginning!

Those photos are absolutely beautiful, such a joy to behold .

Just a lovely space to be here in this post.

How am I doing with my 3-legged stool, I ask myself. Could do better onnthe physical me too. I have some lovely green grapes I shall rejoice in later.

Bloom'n good goals! I could use some of the green stuff too.

Excellent Caroline! I so agree with everything here! Can you tell me what your "green stuff" is...? I need to detox too! :)

Gorgeous color in these photos! Terrific goals Caroline. I need to be kinder to myself too. I think I'll "steal" a couple of these goals :) Thanks!

That first picture made me so thirsty. It is a beauty.

well .. your photo makes the green stuff look good. but i am still skeptical. ;)

happy merry 2010! i love your list.

Although I drank on NYE, I did not get drunk like I normally do nor did I even catch a buzz. Even at Christmas I resisted the urge to eat junk. It didn't even appeal to me. Yesterday, I called curves. I have an appointment tomorrow for a fitness assessment. I hope I leave there as a new member. I guess it depends on how much it's going to cost me. But at least I'm taking action now.

I love eating healthy, but I need to do much better. I'm going to Costco today, and I'm gonna get me some of that green envy.

Love your photos. They are always good and so are your thoughts.
