This was my fortune last night...how awesome is that! Finally, one I can actually use!
I just read one of the greatest things ever. Seriously! I am not sure how I came about this blog but I am so glad I did! I love the name too, Anxiety Slayer. Cool.
Now you have to go and read this post.
So the quick and dirty is this...
Our negative thoughts (worry, fear, etc) are like sticks....and we are the dog. We have a choice. We can chase the stick, obsess over it, gnaw on it for hours and days (even years)...OR... we can just let the damn stick fall and leave it alone.
Hello??? I so love this analogy.
So I played the "stick game" today. I had some thoughts creep in that were pretty crappy. So instead of chasing the thoughts and obsessing over them...I let them go. I noticed them there, oh yes...but I said (in my mind) "I am not chasing you today. Nope, you're just a thought...and not a very nice one...so I think I will just let you lay there and be quiet. "
And you know what happened? Since I didn't chase the thought...it stayed quiet. Like a good little stick.
How cool is that!?
I think I love this game. And I assure you, I will play it again!
Oh...do give it a try...
Take a peek...I am blooming 365 days in 2010

totally love this... totally dig it...and totally know it's true!
sigh... good for you!!
off to check out the link.. thank you!

Thanks for the thoughts and the link. It's really so simple, isn't it? If we don't feed and nourish the beast, it goes away. I'm a big fan of the yoga concept of Vairagya, non-attachment. http://www.swamij.com/glossary/non-attachment.htm
You note the presence of the situation, but you don't attach to it. It's essentially the dog-and-the-stick practice. I simply don't attach myself to things that do not serve my highest and greatest good. There's a lot of freedom in not weighing oneself down with stuff that really won't matter five years from now.
Thanks so much for sharing our post, it's much appreciated.
You have a beautiful blog and I will call back again.
with all best wishes to you for a gentle day that's free from chasing sticks
Ananga
thanks for leaing the way to another lovely blog. what a cool name it is too!
you have no idea how much I love this and how often that damn stick is going to be there laying on the ground in front of me.... while I kick it a little bit.... while trying to completely ignore it....BUT I'm not going to throw it !
What a great technique!
Love the ongoing transformation you are choosing to share here. To decide to move through transitions more consciously empowers you to expand in unexpected ways and open up to discover parts of your true self you had temporarily forgotten.
Wonderful analogy. I am going to check out that link, love the photo, and that fortune is awesome. take care.
Love the image today and thanks so much for sharing the blog with us. It looks awesome and I can't wait to check it out!
Super analogy and link...also liked the post about "Sometimes it Rains". Bookmarked - thanks again for sharing some wisdom!
You always make me think. I love that. Thank you!
Love, love, love this analogy! Perfect! Thank you!
It is a great analogy isn't it... its what we know in theory, but putting like that makes so much sense. enjoy the game!
I just got a fortune the night before last. Mine said, Beautiful Things Await You. I loved it. How amazing that a little random fortune can affect our thinking.
Love the blog you recommended and the stick analogy is great.
Love your fortune! So here's a funny thing. My (real) dog will go after the stick...but she won't bring it to me. I have to chase her if I want to toss it again. A twist on the concept. Now I have to ponder the spiritual implications of this.
Caroline,
I chase the stick until I figure out its purpose for me. When I am in alignment with that, the stick disappears and my perceptions have shifted.
There are definitely a few sticks I've gnawed on in my lifetime. I'm getting much better at leaving them where they lay though. Excellent analogy.
Gonna play it tomorrow at work! Can't wait.
I like the idea that when you don't give negative thoughts, gossip and such any power, they can not thrive and thus go away or have no where to grow!
Great find!
Not a concept I have thought of, but I will definitely remember and use it going forward. Thanks so much!
awesome analogy...thanks!
I don't remember how I came across your blog but it has been a blessing to me. Everyday I pull up your site and the EXACT feelings I'm having at the time are addressed by what You are going through. At times I've wondered if I have an alternate personality that posts on this site when I'm sleeping or something. I thank you for your thoughts and solutions or attempts at recognizing the solutions. Thanks and Blessed Be!!
My last fortune cookie contained a fortune of only one word, "DOOM"
I feel I should start eating at a new restaurant.
I have already posted a comment yesterday, but I am still thinking about this concept. In some ways it reminds me of a time when I went through some rough moments in my life. I wrote the issues that I needed to forgive and let go of on rocks and then threw the rocks away, letting them go.
What a great analogy.... I'm going to try dropping my sticks, too. I may end up with a pretty big pile of sticks before it's over with, but that's definitely better than letting them weigh me down!
Awesome fortune cookie message! And thanks for the referral to a really insightful blog.
Cheers,
Miche :)
What a good idea. Good for you~!
